Are you ready for some football? Ready or not, it's time; the 2022 Super Bowl is just around the corner! And while the main attraction of Super Bowl LVI is the competition between the LA Rams and the Cincinnati Bengals, a definite bonus for watchers of the big game has always been the commercials. For us–the car commercials!

Prior to the rise of the internet, viewers actually had to wait until Super Bowl Sunday to see the high-priced production television ads that companies placed between plays on the field. Back then, leaks of the upcoming commercial-fest were few and far between, consisting more of snippets on morning talk shows or blurbs in daily news content.

Fast-forward to 2022, and they are at our fingertips. A simple tap of a device and we can instantly get a glimpse or with many, even a full ad spot play of what’s to come. To satisfy our itch to see them right away, here we take a look at the car and car accessory commercials (or teasers/trailers of said commercials) created for the Super Bowl 2022.

BMW brought A-List star power to their 2022 Super Bowl commercial for the all-electric BMW iX. Featured are Arnold Schwarzenegger and Salma Hayek in starring roles, playing Zeus, the God of Lightning, and his Goddess wife, Hera.

This teaser spotlights Zeus/Schwarzenegger opposite a coffee barista played by Matty Cardarople (of Stranger Things). Creative was credited to BMW. Obviously, little cost was spared on the cast or production as director credits belong to two-time Academy Award recipient Bryan Buckley.

The star of Kia’s Robo Dog is exactly that—a wide-eyed, electrically-charged robotic pup. This Super Bowl 2022 ad runs a full minute and features Kia’s all-new all-electric EV6. Along with the EV6 Super Bowl commercial, the Robo Dog campaign includes a TikTok Robo Dog “Turn Around Dance” and a QR Code-Based “Robo Dogmented Reality” experience, illustrating a partnership with the Petfinder Foundation.

USA Today reports that Toyota will air an ad spot after the 2022 Super Bowl kick-off. The Toyota commercial promotes their commitment to mobility, rather than any particular vehicle. The one-minute airing tells the tale of brothers who become teammates to compete in the Paralympics, earning 10 medals. It is amazing how the true story is captured in only 60 seconds. Toyota’s campaign runs under the #StartYourImpossible hashtag.

Although it is advertised with “extremely limited availability, Hyundai promoted the IONIQ 5 with a high-dollar spot worthy of the 2022 Super Bowl with the History of Evolution starring Jason Bateman.

Bateman takes viewers on a journey through the ages, from the development of language to modern day, culminating in the IONIQ 5 and its features. The ad spot appears to be ready for Game Day; however there are mixed reports on whether or not, it will make it to air. Maybe, even with the speed of internet leaks, there are still some surprises in store for viewers of the 2022 Super Bowl.

Wallbox wants to take the fear “out of electricity” and prompts viewers to “embrace it.” Their message is underlined by the ad’s star Seth Thomas, a lightning strike survivor. The commercial kicks off with footage of Thomas’ strike, which perpetuates his fear of electricity. By the story’s end, Seth comes to terms with electric power and the use Wallbox as his EV home charger.
