We have seen several videos related to modifications online. Although, modification is illegal in India, there are several garages and workshop who customise the vehicle as per customer interest. We have featured many such tastefully modified cars and bikes on our website. Other than regular modifications, people even convert their vehicle completely to give it a new look and identity. Here we have one such video, where a 2005 model Tata Sumo SUV has been neatly modified to look like a Mercedes-Benz G-Wagen.

The video has been uploaded by MAGNETO 11 (Punit Sharma) on their YouTube channel. In this video, vlogger talks about all the modification that has been done to the car. The SUV does not look like a Tata Sumo from the front. The front-end has been completely fabricated in metal and designed to look like a G-Wagen. The front grille, scoop on the bonnet, front fender and the flared wheel arch are all made from metal sheets. The front bumper has also been neatly fabricated in metal. It gets Mercedes-Benz logo on the grille and the headlamps are all LED projector units with ring type dual-function LED DRLs. There are turn indicators that are placed on the bonnet. The shape of the turn indicator is different from the one seen on the G-Wagen.

As we move to the side profile, you would start noticing the Tata Sumo traits on the car. The design of the roof, door handles, windows are all from Tata Sumo. G-Wagen has a proper boxy design but, this wannabe G-Wagen gets a small curve on the roof. The roof and the thick plastic cladding on the side profile gets a carbon fibre finish to it. This SUV comes with 17 inch aftermarket alloy wheels. As we move to the rear, it looks like a Tata Sumo only. The spare wheel is mounted on the tail gate and the spare wheel cover has Mercedes-Benz logo in the centre. The original tail lamps on the Tata Sumo have been replaced as part of the modification.

The SUV now gets an aftermarket LED tail lamps which looks familiar to a unit seen on Jeep Wrangler and Thar. The exhaust is at the rear only. The vlogger mentions that engine on this SUV remains stock. The whole SUV has been finished in gloss black shade which is a very popular colour of G-Wagen. Vlogger then shows how the interior on this SUV has been done. The interior has also been customised. The basic layout is the same that was offered with Tata Sumo but, it now gets new features like an electric sunroof, touchscreen infotainment system, speakers and so on. The interior gets a White colour theme along with black bits at places.

The roof liner is now wrapped in leatherette material. The driver and co-passenger seats are electrically adjustable and the seats are all wrapped in leather. The floor mats have been redone as well. The main customisation in the cabin was that the third row seats have been removed and captain seats have been installed. for second row passengers. The Sumo offers a lot more in terms of space. We wouldn’t call it the neatest looking G-Wagon copy but, it reminds us of G-Wagon at least from some angles.
