The Kamm 912c is a 750 kg Porsche 912 restomod - US Sports

Life isn’t all about numbers, especially when it comes to cars. But when we talk about the Porsche 912, it’s still hard not to dwell on it.

The 912 is a 911, with two cylinders less. With less weight in the rear overhang, it is not only lighter but better balanced, offering better heading stability. Anyway, that’s what 912 owners say when they’re asked why they don’t have a 911…

Or rather, that’s what they were saying. Because the KAMM 912c sends off all the usual debates on “the 911 of the poor”. It costs €300,000, has the same displacement as the original 911 with its two liters, and develops more power than any 911 from the 1960s, except for the extremely rare 911 R.

The latter was 210 hp for about 800 kg, two quintals less than the standard 911 of the time which was already not considered obese. The KAMM 912c, on the other hand, weighs 750 kg thanks to carbon fiber everywhere inside and out, Lexan windows and ultra-light floor mats. The 170 hp of its flat 4 2.0 prepared by the Swiss company JPS Aircooled (the boxer is obviously air-cooled) are enough to give it 227 hp per ton, a good distance from the 260 of a 911 R but far ahead of the 130 of a contemporary 911 S.

It is therefore just as fast and just as expensive as a 911 of the time, if not more. The boxer clings to 7,200 rpm and, thanks to a ZF self-locking, there is no waste. It slows down harder thanks to 964 brakes in front, and Brembo behind. And it will still take the lead in the winding with its modern tires and coilovers at the front.

What if the best 911 restomod was this 912?
