Last year, Manhart unveiled the potent MHX5 800, based on the BMW X5 Competition and pumping out a staggering 812 hp and 797 lb-ft (1,080 Nm) of torque. Fast forward 18 months and the German tuner has released a new version of its tweaked X5, now dubbed the MHX5 700 and with a touch less grunt.

Slotted under the hood of the X5 Competition is a 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 that typically pumps out 625 hp and 750 Nm of torque. It is one heck of an SUV but Manhart obviously thought it could be improved so have tweaked it to now deliver 730 hp and 664 lb-ft (900 Nm) of torque.

To achieve these gains, Manhart can fit either its MHtronik auxiliary control unit or remap the ECU. The X5 M has also been fitted with a stainless steel exhaust complete with valve control and four 100 mm tailpipes. Customers really looking to make a statement can also opt for race downpipes without catalytic converters, Manhart stainless steel OPF Delete replacement pipes, and the Manhart OPF Deleter.

A number of other modifications have been made to the MHX5 700. For example, the SUV sits on a set of height-adjustable H&R coil springs to not only improve the handling but also make it a touch lower. A set of 23×11-inch wheels are also found at all four corners, complete with 315/25 tires and bathed in black.

Some modifications have also been made to the bodywork itself. This includes the fitment of a carbon fiber hood with large air outlets, a carbon-fiber front splitter, two-piece carbon fiber side skirts, and a carbon fiber diffuser with a central fog light.

A number of interior tweaks have also been made. These include distinctive Manhart paddle shifters, a carbon fiber steering wheel spoke, and unique floor mats.

Alpina-themed upgrades actually suit the Toyota Supra very nicely.

We can sort of begin to see the owner’s vision with this unusual project, but it fell flat in its execution.
