PORTAGE, MI -- A new car wash is under construction at a major intersection in Portage.
A Drive & Shine car wash is coming to the southeast corner of South Westnedge Avenue and Kilgore Road.
The new car wash will be the third location of the family owned business in the Kalamazoo area, said Sherry Tehrani, vice president of marketing at Drive & Shine.
“We love the Kalamazoo/Portage market because in so many ways it resembles where Drive & Shine started in St. Joseph/Elkhart County in Indiana,” Tehrani said in a statement sent to MLive.
Drive & Shine is based in Indiana, and has recently opened locations on Gull Road and West Main Street in Kalamazoo County.
The car wash locations include automated car washing, indoor self-vacuuming and outdoor self-vacuum spaces. But unlike its predecessors in Kalamazoo, the new location at 5003 S. Westnedge Ave. will offer interior cleaning by a team of Drive & Shine members.
The 20,000-square-foot car wash’s interior cleaning is a “mini-detail in high speed,” said Joe Luchene, the chain’s director of operations.
A team of Drive & Shine employees will offer full interior vacuuming, window cleaning, dash and center console cleaning, washing floor mats and fully hand drying the vehicle. The entire process takes less than eight minutes, Luchene said.
Drive & Shine anticipates the new location to open before winter, Luchene said.
The indoor self-vacuum stations are free of charge to Drive & Shine VIP members. The stations include hose drops on both sides of the vehicle, an air tool to blast away dirt from hard to reach areas, a mat cleaning machine and access to free towels.
Drive & Shine offers a variety of services for various prices, and the basic car wash costs $10, according to the company website.
