The Bottom Line: What is an Outlander? The Outlander is a compact SUV manufactured by Japanese automaker Mitsubishi Motors. PSA’s Citroën C-Crosser and the Peugeot 4007, which are manufactured by Mitsubishi in Japan, are badge engineered versions of the second generation 2022 Outlander. In October of 2016, Mitsubishi joined the now Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance. Nissan is the majority owner and has a 34% share of Mitsubishi Motors.

The Mitsubishi Outlander is one of the least expensive SUVs on the market. The low cost, numerous standard features, and standard three row seats make it an excellent value. The Outlander is safe, reliable and comfortable. The 2022 Mitsubishi Outlander is a 3 row SUV with seating for 7, and it is sold in 5 trim levels: ES, SE, SE Launch Edition, SEL and SEL Launch Edition. The starting price for the 2022 Outlander is only $25,795.

This week Mitsubishi sent me a 2022 Outlander SEL 2.5L AWD SUV to test drive and review. The starting price for this model is $33,745. The list of options includes: The SEL touring package for $2,700, the accessory rear cargo cover for $195, and the welcome package for $160. The total MSRP manufacturer’s suggested retail price, including the $1,195 destination charge, came to: $37,995.

After adding in the state and local sales tax, plus the DMV and dealers fees, the total out the door and in your driveway purchase price is $42,744. When you’re looking for a nice compact 3 row SUV that’s totally up to date in features, tech and options, then you have to take a really good look at the all new for 2022 Mitsubishi Outlander.

Power for this model comes from a 2.5L liter DOHC dual overhead cam 4 cylinder direct injection engine, that puts out 181 horsepower and 181 pound-feet of torque, and is connected to an 8 speed CVT continuously variable automatic transmission with Sport Mode. All trims come standard with FWD front wheel drive, with AWD all wheel drive optional. Mitsubishi calls it S-AWC for Super-All Wheel Control.

This Outlander has the SEL Touring Package. This option includes: a heated steering wheel, leather door inserts with black and tan quilted contrast stitching, leather seating surfaces, a 10.8″ HUD heads up display, a Bose Premium sound system with 10 speakers, a power panoramic sunroof, and pull up rear door sunshades. That’s a lot of features for only $2,700 bucks.

The Welcome Package includes carpeted front and rear floor mats, a scratch touch up paint pen, plus a center console tray mat, and the back end has a pull out cargo cover to shield your valuables from prying eyes. The entire SUV is protected by an anti-theft alarm system, and an anti-theft engine immobilizer. These are just a few of the 29 listed safety and security features that give you that extra peace of mind, when you’re on the road, or just parked at the mall.

Fuel economy is listed at 24 MPG city, 30 MPG highway, and 26 MPG in combined driving. The greenhouse gas rating is a 5, and the smog rating is a 5, both out of 10.

All good numbers that are right in the middle of the pack in the compact SUV class.

The 2022 Mitsubishi Outlander is definitely worth a look if you’re shopping for a 3 row compact SUV. The all-new Outlander offers upscale styling, lots of standard features, and 7 seat practicality, and it costs thousands of $$$ less than it’s compact SUV competitors.

Outlander is for the adventurist. Getting into dynamic design, powerful handling and unexpected luxury means blending form with function in brave new ways. It is artistic and stylish, yet powerful and fun to drive. The kind of ride you’re proud to show off, and the one that has your back, no matter where you want to go.

This isn’t just a redesign, it is a revolution. The impressive presence of the 2022 Outlander’s exterior has been completely reimagined to exude confidence with a wider, and more muscular stance. The sculpted sides, hexagon motif at the rear, and bold distinctive front face, make for a stunning and powerful all new compact SUV identity.

When you’re ready to buy a new compact SUV, the 2022 Mitsubishi Outlander should be at the top of your ride and drive list, as it is the newest and best priced compact SUV for sale today. Call, click or visit your local Mitsubishi dealer for a test drive, and a Bottom Line price review, on a new Mitsubishi Outlander. And remember that the base window sticker price for an all new 2022 Outlander starts at only $25,795. A word to the wise is sufficient: Be Smart, Stay Safe, and Just Breathe.
