These are exciting times for Hem, who today launched its inaugural outdoor dining furniture: the Chop collection. Designed by London-based industrial designer Philippe Malouin, a frequent collaborator, Chop puts an emphasis on creating high quality, uniquely design furniture for the home – just like the rest of the brand’s catalogue. The brief given to Malouin’s asked for a new standard in outdoor furniture, a modern classic.
Malouin shared, “A small part of my work as a designer is in the art world where I do a lot of experimentation. For inspiration for this collection, I looked to my works for Salon 94 in New York, which used a number of industrial techniques like welding, bending, and coating to create brutal yet elegant constructions.” Cold Rolled Round Bar

Designed for all seasons, Chop’s tables and stackable chairs are built to handle the harshest of conditions, whether that’s extreme weather or city life. Malouin took the collection’s name from the Chop Saw, a gallery concept he previously explored. It involved cutting and welding block-like shapes into functional pieces. Chop’s twist on the original idea is that it’s formed from stainless steel pipes for maximum durability and a rust-free lifespan year-round.
The chairs are each made from a single steel piece, giving them a weighted frame and clean silhouette with a touch of playfulness. Choose from four powder-coated colors – Ultramarine Blue, Beige, Black Green, and Grey White – and additionally, a sandblasted stainless-steel finish. Mixed and matched or coordinated, users can be bold and creative with their set-ups.
Chop’s tables include circular and square options, and are made from a thick stainless-steel plate that’s mounted on a welded pipe leg for resilience. Available in the same four colors as the chairs, the two table shapes have been designed to bring the best out of the color palette for a versatile, customizable outdoor dining set.
